Lithuania will build six underground bomb shelter schools in Ukraine

Lithuania plans to build six underground bomb shelter schools in six regions of Ukraine, said Arturas Zharnovskis, head of the Lithuanian reconstruction program Co-create Future of Ukraine.
Schools will be built "from scratch", that is, in places where there were not even shelters before. In addition, anti-radiation protection will be provided in the institutions. One school each will be built in the Mykolaiv, Odesa, Zaporizhzhya, Sumy and Chernihiv regions, and a place for the sixth school is being sought. It will probably be the Kharkiv region, the foundation says.
"Our goal is for children to be able to return to the educational process with direct communication with each other and with teachers. And in other conditions, such bomb shelters can be used in different ways: for sports and cultural activities," says Zharnovskis.
They want to complete the construction of underground schools by the end of 2024.
At the beginning of April, the construction of the first underground school in Ukraine was completed in Kharkiv. It has 20 classrooms and is designed to receive 900 students in two shifts. In particular, 600 children will study at the school next academic year. Such schools will continue to be built in other districts of the city.
